Tesla is going to build the world’s largest lithium ion battery in Australia

Tesla will build the world’s largest lithium-ion battery in South Australia as part of a historic agreement between French renewable energy provider Neoen, the Government of South Australia and the company Elon Musk.

The partnership is the result of a bet made by Tesla’s founder and CEO, Musk in March, in which he said Tesla could offer a functioning battery power system to prevent faults within 100 days, or Which would be free.

This bet is stable and the start of 100 days will be marked once the network interconnection agreement has been signed.

The battery of 100 MW wind farm / 129MWh Tesla associated Hornsdale Neoen, 230km north of the capital, Adelaide, South Australia at the forefront of the world’s energy storage technology.

At the event in Adelaide Friday musk said he and his team had to consider the project risks before accepting the agreement due to the scale.

“We think about it and there are certainly risks (sic), because it will be the biggest destination of the battery in the world by a significant margin,” he explained, was more important 70 MW than its closest competitor to 30 megawatts.

“This system will be three times more powerful than any other system on earth. This is not a minor incursion on the border. This is three times as far away as anyone else has done before.”

He also insisted that the 100-day rule is included in the official contract “because that is what we have publicly said what we would do.”

“I also want to thank Mike Cannon-Brookes for talking about Twitter,” he said.

When asked how much it would cost if the project was not delivered on time, musk said: “A large sum Probably $ 13 million or more servings …”

He said that the total sum of the project would be distributed according to the criteria of South Australia.

Musk also revealed the life of the battery, according to the energy level considered the end of the battery life was approximately 15 years. Although the electronics can last 20 to 30 years.

“I see this as an example that the world will try to make large-scale applications of batteries that have a charge,” he said.

“It’s really going to be an example for the rest of the world. However, we have to offer.”
