Elon Musk says Tesla is building the largest battery system in the world within 100 days — or it’s free

Tesla has agreed to build the largest lithium-ion battery battery storage project in the world in South Australia, announced Friday the billionaire founder Elon Musk.

The electric car company, which also makes the storage battery Tesla Powerpack, beating another 91 companies to win a contract to install 100 megawatts of facilitator.

It will be a partner of renewable energy company Neoen French and get power from its Hornsdale wind farm near Jamestown, South Australia. The facility will be able to power 30,000 homes.

PowerPacks Tesla will charge using wind farm power and provide electricity during peak hours.

Musk announced the association at a press conference in Australia, followed by a tweet in which it stated that the energy storage facility will be three times larger than in the market at the moment.

“Basically, you can charge the batteries when you have an excess of energy when the cost of production is very low … And then discharge it when the cost of energy production is high, which effectively reduces the average cost for the end customer” , Said musk at the press conference on Friday.

“This is a fundamental improvement in the efficiency of the network.”

Musk also said that if the project has not been completed within 100 days, it will be free, in honor of a promise made a few months ago.

Lyndon Rive, the cousin of musk and co-founder of the Solar City, recently merged with Tesla, said in March that the company could install a 100-300 megawatt energy storage project. Shore said at the time that this could be achieved in 100 days.

Mike Cannon-Brookes, the founder of Australian technology company listed on the Nasdaq, Atlassian, worth more than 6.3 billion, musk asked on Twitter if he was serious, to which Tesla’s boss replied.
“We really insist on the contract that has a hundred-day capacity or it’s free. That’s what we’ve said publicly, that’s what we’ll do,” he said on the musky wheel of the press.

South Australia has suffered from severe storms that damaged critical infrastructure, resulting in power outages, leaving many residents without electricity. The Australian government has tried to solve the problem with renewable energy.

Then musk sent to your tweet.

Jay Weatherill, First Previous of South Australia, a state in south central Somalia, welcomed the agreement.

“SA (South Australia) is leading the country in renewable energy – we are now leading the world in battery storage,” Weatherill said in a Friday entry.

Given the size of the project, musk said there would be no risks involved.

“We think about it and there is no doubt about the risks, because it will be the largest battery installation in the world by a significant margin,” musk said.
